Femcalibur Tries Stitch Fix!

I saw the advertisement and thought “Wouldn’t that be neat to have some style your wardrobe?” Working on many productions over the years, knowing what it feels like to be on both sides of the camera, and assist in wardrobe, I'm slightly envious of the fashion the designers can master. If only I could sweep through racks of TJMaxx and Goodwill, pulling out cool trends, fitting to current style… You most likely have little idea of what the people in wardrobe department do for commercials, TV, industrial, web streaming, movies, and all the ‘little’ stuff in between.

Imagine sitting on the Stitch Fix advertisement for a few days, curious of what your own fashion coordinator would style for your IRL movie. You are the star of your own film but dress down for comfort and ease... What would it be like to have someone else pick out stylish, comfortable clothes for you?

I was apprehensive, but when the add popped up at least four times through different social media outlets, already clued in that I clicked once, I was being targeted. “Buy. Look at us AND BUY,” the add began chanting at me.

Finally I wanted to know turned in to a need to know, “Okay, Stitch Fix, what is your ‘catch’?”

Read the fine print, and I can summarize what I found out (though you should ALWAYS read it too):
·         You get to PICK how often you want your shipment
·         You have a $20.00 dollar fashion fee, ANYTHING you buy, that $20.00 fashion fee will be deducted with you purchase. If you buy one item that is $40.00 – they will charge you $20.00 – because you already paid the $20.00 fashion fee.
·         If you buy ALL items they send, you will get 25% off the collection plus your $20.00 dollars is still deducted.
·         You have three days from shipping to RETURN. They explain this in the fine print. Read it carefully or you can be charged for items you didn’t want to keep.
·         You CAN extend that three days! It’s super easy!
·         You CAN exchange if a size is too big or too small but you liked it.
·         They send you a self-address envelope, with postage paid, to return items you don’t want to keep.

If  you have watched my first unboxing – you can watch it here. Technically it’s my second unboxing, because I didn’t understand  you could save your Live Instagram videos, but don’t worry, my six year old son calls me out on this.

My wonderful and beautiful sister took pictures of my first ‘try-on.’  In the unboxing video I promised to have hair done and makeup polished, but since I live in mom-hood, I really don’t give two cents anymore about looking polished when I’m just being me. Twenty years ago, ten years ago, eight years ago…. I would have judged  me…. But I don’t give a crap anymore. Moms understand, soon to be mom’s will, and judgmental younger than me…. I was ONCE you. Karma is a bitch.

Back on Topic:

First try was THE DRESS

I was most skeptical about this article of clothing.  First, I rarely wear dresses, I just might forget to cross my legs, or shave them… so much responsibility goes into wearing a dress. While I think the women who do it, especially regularly, our adorable and so lady like, I am oddly uncomfrotable in dresses. Anyone else have this problem? (if so please comment and share)

So, before I try on this dress…. I look at my sister and she says, “I don’t know, the color looked different in the video. It appeared more black and now it appears more purple? Is that purple?”

“Yea,” I reply as I study the color under the light, “It’s a dark, rich purple, almost black but it is purple.”

I try it on and….

I don’t feel the pictures do justice ( #NoFilters or editing)

The peek-a-boo oval leading the subtle skin is captivating while the sleeves gives seductive peek at what may be underneath. The bottom  sleeves are popped off with a rustic gold button, slightly puffing the cuffs so the arms are fun and flirtatious.

I chose my new sling back shoe to add, though I truly am yearning to get a boot similar to the fashion expertise tip, in what I will call The Gold Brick Handbook. A guide on how to flaunt your fashions to their fullest abilities.

Here are the Stitch Fix match ups.

I’m crazy over the jean jacket and boots, paired with a black clutch for a night out.

The white is sweet, but if you read my Fall Fashion 2017 blog you will remember my love/dislike relationship with white.  These heals expose your toes, so the only ‘trip toe’ that will be seen is on your poor, big toe nail.

I think I would personally fashion saucy strappy heal boots, paired with a royal blue clutch, but then again… I’ve never been in charge of wardrobe – I’m just thinking of what is in my own closet.

Item number two was the jeans – and since I didn’t want to be topless, (I know, how old fashion of me) I grabbed my most favorite tank in blue.

The Fashion suggestions are one of my favorites! The red purse and sandals or the white jeans is the perfect pair. (and of course, I'm careful about white!)

While I awed over this piece, it was unfortunately too big on me. When I tightened the straps it appeared more like this:

I plan to exchange this item for a small. Hope it fits!

Super cute and still in love with the me factor of the shirt, I must disclose I am a tricky fit when it comes to tops. My broad shoulders send me to the medium size range in some brands while small and even sometimes extra small fit in others.

On to THE JEANS:
The jeans, I was very apprehensive about. I have a big bubble butt and also petite, (a nice word for short). I also have thicker thighs. #KeepingItReal

I’m a thrifty shopper. If I looked at the tag of these jeans in the store I would’ve passed them… If I happened to tried them on, I would’ve desperately searched for coupons, and most likely, sadly left them on the rack….

But here… delivered to my home…. Like a lost dog or cat crying outside my door… after we bonded, I could not turn my back on the stretchy, high waist, glove fitting jeans… I could tell they fell in love with me the way I did them, hugging my chunky thighs and bubble butt tightly… I had to give them a home.

The Stitch Fix match up is a fun fall fashion:

And then there was the…BIRD Tank….

Good thing Alfred Hitchcock's movie didn’t freak me out…
Patterns.

I told stitch fix I would try them… while I have this odd admiration for patterns on other people, I never buy them much.

Lacy black sleeves, a very comfortable material, the birds give me wings of confidence! I adore it.

The bird top fashion match is not my favorite. What do you think?

I decided to flaunt it in public. Felt refreshing, knowing I was showing off a new look.

Lastly is the mustard, cross body bag. The quality is amazing. Two zipper pouches inside with a pocket between, material is a nice faux leather, I don’t do real leather, and it looks amazing with these outfits, all of them.

I probably wouldn’t think to buy it from the store, the color isn’t pratical to my lifestyle, but now that I have it, you can bet I will sport it on nights I go out.

Want to get YOUR STITCH FIX?

Additional things to know:
·         You will go through a lengthy questionnaire so they can get to know your style
·         You can choose monthly, bi-monthly, or your own preference
·         Your first box is like Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate)
·         Try everything on before placing firm judgment
·         Add your social media sight like Pintrest and pin away the fashions you love. This helps your fashion designer.
·         If you are a budget getter, like me, prepare yourself for cost you normally wouldn’t spend – but remember your $20.00 fashion fee goes towards it and IF you buy all items you receive an additional 25% off
·         Do be REAL when filling out your questionnaire – there is a question on what your comfortable on spending on clothes…. I almost picked the $50-$100 range, the lowest range, though I NEVER spend that on a single item. Then they have a choice as cheap as I can get. IF that is you own it! Otherwise you will never be able to justify a purchase!

I chose every two months on my check out. Can’t wait to share my next Stitch Fix with you September! Right before the holidays!

If you get Stitch Fix make sure to share your unboxing video with us!
